Follow the steps below to set up your tutorial project in CloudConnect Designer, GoodData’s service for data modeling and data loading.
1. Get a platform token
Before you begin using GoodData’s Data Loading Service, CloudConnect, you’ll need a platform token. Current customers receive their unique platform token in their welcome email (if you do not know your token, please email email@example.com). If you are not a GoodData customer yet, start your 30 days Trial.
2. Install CloudConnect
CloudConnect Designer, the GoodData data loading service, simplifies the most important steps in building solutions on the GoodData Platform: 1) Data modeling and 2) Data loading / ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)
Download the latest version of CloudConnect now:
3. Launch CloudConnect
After installation, launch the application.
On initial launch, you must specify a workspace. In CloudConnect, a workspace is the location where you store your projects. You may have multiple workspaces. For now, feel free to accept the default location.
On initial startup, sign in with your GoodData credentials. If you do not have an account, click Create New Account to register.
After creating a new account or logging in to GoodData, you are prompted to create a new GoodData project. Click Cancel.
NOTE: Do not create a new project at this time. When you import the example project, a new CloudConnect project is automatically created for you.
You should now see a screen similar to the following in CloudConnect:
4. Download the Tutorial project
We’ve prepared a demo project for you to import into CloudConnect. This project includes a pre-built data model and ETL graph (more on these later). After completing the tutorial, you can dig deeper into building these components yourself.
Download the demo project now:
5. Import the Tutorial Project
- In the CloudConnect menu, select File > Import….
- In the Select window, open the CloudConnect category. Click Import external CloudConnect project. Click Next.
- In the Import Projects window, click the “Select archive file” radio button. Click Browse…. Navigate your local directories to select the ZIP file you downloaded. Click Open.
- Click Finish.
The imported files now appear in the project.
Click the arrows next to the
model folders to show the current ETL graph and logical data model files.
